Teddy Bear parachuting is our
newest fund raising project. Brave Teddies came from far and wide
to risk life and limb jumping from our 10 metre tower. They came
in all shapes and sizes - we're not sure that a 1m. tall, 15 kilo
Tiger counts as a Teddy, but he jumped anyway.
The Teddies not only paid for each jump but many
brought sponsorship from their human family and friends - and
sometimes their pub mates.
We were very fortunate to have beautiful weather
and people (and Teddies) spent the afternoon drinking beverages
and eating cakes provided by our ladies. The whole event had that
wonderful English eccentricity about it. Where else in the world
would you see 70 or 80 "adults" watching, and cheering,
as Teddy Bears were parachuted from a 10m. tower.
As a bonus we raised almost £300 for our
charity fund. Our thanks go to Ashley Burt of Burt's Steel from
Sturminster Newton. We plan to parachute more Teddies in 2009,
so watch this space.
