Our
visitors with caravans, tents and motor caravans set up home on
the recreation field, while those without mobile accommodation reported
to local B&Bs and Inns. In the evening our Lions Ladies prepared
a 3 course dinner which was followed by the excitement and thrills
of indoor sheep racing ( as they say : no animals were harmed in
this event.)
Saturday
was for exploring the local countryside and many went to the local
Street Fair in the neighbouring village of Kington Magna, and some
rounded off their afternoon with a cream tea available in a local
East Stour garden to help raise funds for the local church. This
year's theme was 'Castaways' and everyone dressed the part; some
were shipwrecked, or from plane crash, whilst some were native of
the island. We had a hog roast cooking on a spit for most of the
afternoon and this was the main course for a meal provided, again,
by our ladies. After the meal the Joe D Rose band drifted ashore
and provided music for dancing.
Sunday
dawned to the smell of a full English breakfast cooked, as is the
tradition now, by the BV Lions, with some help from our ladies.
It was then time to relax over a Sunday paper or mull over the weekend
with friends both old and new. At 12 noon everyone gathered in the
hall for the closing address by BVL President, Ian Simpson. And
then it was time to think about the journey home, although some
stayed until the next morning to avoid the weekend traffic. All
agreed it had been an excellent weekend - like all good things,
over too quickly.
